Terms of Service

Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Bananify, the studio behind Blanc, covering your use of the Blanc desktop browser and this website. By downloading, installing, or using Blanc, or by using blancbrowser.com, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Blanc.

They cover the desktop version of Blanc for macOS, Windows, and Linux. A mobile version is in development and isn't covered yet; we'll update these terms when it launches.

Using Blanc

Blanc is provided free of charge, for personal or business use.

Blanc's source code is open source, released under the MIT License. Your rights to use, copy, modify, publish, and redistribute the software come from that licence — not from these terms. Nothing here limits, conditions, or revokes them, and if these terms and the MIT License ever disagree about the software, the MIT License governs.

Two things sit outside that grant, and they apply to any build you publish. The bundled EasyList and EasyPrivacy filter lists are licensed by their authors, and Blanc redistributes the lists and its derived filter data under CC BY-SA 3.0 or later, which carries its own attribution and share-alike obligations. Separately, the Blanc and Bananify Creative names and logos are trademarks that a copyright licence does not convey: you may publish your own build, but not present it as Blanc. The full record is in the repository's LICENSE, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, and ASSET-LICENSE.md.

Blanc Patron

Blanc is free to download and use. Everything that makes it a browser — ad and tracker blocking, encrypted sync, private tabs, tab groups, quiet tabs, and passkeys — is free and stays free. Blanc Patron is an optional subscription, billed monthly or yearly, that adds three macOS Dock colorways and lets you save a window as a named workspace on every platform. Creating a named workspace requires an active Patron subscription. Renaming and removing existing workspaces continue to work if it lapses. Nothing that is free today is moved behind Patron.

Blanc Patron is sold through Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and handles payment, any applicable tax, recurring billing, cancellation, and refunds under their terms. Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel; you can cancel anytime through Polar, and your Patron benefits continue until the end of the period you have paid for. Supporters who made the earlier one-time purchase keep their benefits permanently, at no further cost.

Acceptable use

Please use Blanc lawfully. Don't use it to break the law or infringe others' rights, and don't interfere with or attempt to disrupt the app, this website, or the services they rely on.

The websites you visit

Blanc is a tool for reaching the web. We don't control, endorse, or take responsibility for the third-party sites you visit or the content you access through Blanc — that's between you and those sites. Blanc's ad and tracker blocking is provided on a best-effort basis and isn't guaranteed to block every ad or tracker.

Optional 1Password integration

On macOS, Blanc can optionally ask your installed 1Password desktop app to fill a matching login when you explicitly invoke the feature. It requires your own 1Password app and account, which remain governed by your separate agreement with 1Password. 1Password is not a party to these terms, and Blanc is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by 1Password. Neither Bananify nor 1Password guarantees that this integration will always be available or work with every website. You may not use Blanc to reverse-engineer or circumvent the 1Password SDK or services.

Software updates

Installed copies of Blanc may check for and install updates automatically, so you stay on a current and secure version. We may add, change, or discontinue features as Blanc evolves.

No warranty

Blanc and this website are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't warrant that Blanc will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its blocking will catch everything.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bananify will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or profits, arising out of or relating to your use of Blanc or this website. Because Blanc is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you actually paid us, if any — for example, a Patron subscription or supporter purchase — in the twelve months before the claim.

Ending the agreement

You can stop using Blanc and uninstall it at any time. These terms govern your relationship with us around the app and this website; they are not the software licence. Ending these terms — for any reason, including a breach of them — does not terminate or modify the rights granted under the MIT License. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as the disclaimers and liability limits, survive after the agreement ends.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to Blanc or these terms will be handled in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you agree to that venue.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and continuing to use Blanc after a change means you accept the updated terms.
